Joel - 7 weeks, 3 days

Uh-oh! Looks like the easygoing, peaceful baby (who was still opinionated, mind you) is a boy of the past. This boy is cranky unless he's being held! Even then, he's cranky until you find *just* the right position for him. So, the nurses spend lots of the day holding him. He's going to be so spoiled by the time he comes home!!

Well, this evening we found out why he's been so cranky. He was having trouble maintaining his oxygen, so they did a chest x-ray. It looks like he'll be starting his breathing treatments again, and he's back on high-flow air. They think the microflow might not have been enough to keep his lungs open like they need to be. They put him back in an isolette to minimize sound and light stress, and they stopped his feedings again. Also, they finally found a vein to give him a transfusion. That should make him feel better, since he's been anemic for a few days. All this just in time to potentially delay his surgery...again. I'm not sure he has realized that the surgery is for his own good! He should be feeling much better by tomorrow. Let's hope so! We want our happy little guy back! (and those docs were hard to coordinate!) Please say an extra prayer for Joel to be healthy enough for surgery this week!

At least you know what the cause of his crankiness is...now that they can address the cause, I think he will turn around quickly! I am praying for a RAPID recovery so that his surgery can proceed as planned. If it does not, I truly believe that God has a reason and it will happen in His time...Give him my love...and know that we continue to pray for him. Have a nice Memorial Day!
