Well, Joel has had a great three weeks here in the NICU. After all the big changes yesterday, he was put on the low-flow oxygen today instead of the high-flow he had been on. When I got there this afternoon, he looked SO HAPPY! He was all smiles and had his eyes wide open. The amount of progress he's made in three short weeks is thrilling. I'm glad all the changes are going in the right direction. Losing the IV and the high-flow have obviously made him lots more comfortable. I hope this allows him to rest better and continue to grow!
Tonight, Joel was dressed in his first clothes! The nurse tonight is trying him on room temperature, instead of having his bed regulate temperature based on his body temperature. It will test him to see how well he can regulate his own temperature. Meanwhile, he looked so cute in the little onesie we put on him! (hospital attire, not our own, but still cute!) If he does well with this "test", he'll lose the temperature probe, too. Wow! He's over 32 weeks GA now, so they'll be challenging him more and more. They will also be trying to wean his airflow. He went down from 2L to 1L today, and might go down further tonight since he's handling it so well. Jake got to hold the little guy tonight, and he also commented just how happy he seems today. Thank you again for all the prayers! The power of prayer is amazing!
