I got a call from the neonatologist this morning saying Joel didn't look so good. He was breathing really fast and looked mottled. They took bloodwork to test for infection, tested for UTI, and stopped feedings and took a chest xray to see if he aspirated some milk. They covered all the bases. Only a couple of hours later, they said he already looked much more calm. They put him back on IV fluids while he's not taking feedings and put him back on high-flow oxygen for the time being.
Poor guy had a rough day! He does look much better tonight, so I think he's on the mend. NICU is generally a roller coaster ride, and we've been very fortunate Joel has done so well for so long. I hope we can put this little setback behind us quickly. He's in good hands! The other bad thing about it is that if he aspirated and his lungs have to heal, his surgery will be delayed. They want healthy lungs to do anesthesia. We will have to wait and see! Thanks for keeping him in your prayers as he bounces back.

or my fingers, when that didn't work.

Bless his little heart! So sorry to hear he had such a rough day...We will pray for a MUCH better day today. That was hopefully just a little bump in the road...he looks good in the pictures, he actually looks like he is starting to gain a little weight. For the first time he looks like he is filling up his skin! Soooo cute! Praying for a great weekend and so glad you can spend more time with him for a couple days!!!
